Ronny Chieng

Ronny Chieng was born on 21 November 1985. Chieng is currently a senior correspondent for The Daily Show on Comedy Central. He also created and plays the lead role in the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student, which debuted on ABC Australia (Australia) in the year 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to a Malaysian Chinese family. He grew up in both Singapore as well as in the United States, living in Manchester, New Hampshire from 1989 until 1994. Chieng appeared with Trevor Noah in 2013 at the comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia. The following year, he was asked to take on the role of a correspondent on The Daily Show, which Noah hosts. In July of 2016 Chieng was selected as one of the top 10 comics to watch by Variety In October of that year, Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to share his take on Jesse Watters Fox News segment that was criticized by some as being racist. Chieng presented an expletive-laden critique of the segment on Fox News that was deemed conservative by many. He also returned to the city's Chinatown. Watters had mocked the people living there and conducted respectful interviews in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. The viral video garnered attention in Slate and the Washington Post. In his childhood, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. Though he's lived in Australia for over 10 years, he still doesn't have a permanent residence or citizenship in Australia. Chieng made a joke about being negative towards dogs during the 2018 Daily Show. However, he later stated that he's "100% not afraid of dogs" in an interview.
